I am currently pursuing themes that I have been engaged in as written language over
many years but I am now purposefully propelling these ideas and aspirational thoughts
via visual means. I choose to create with the medium of polyester and epoxy resins
embedded in fibreglass. I also incorporate tints, pigments and other forms of mixed
media at my disposal, all of which predominately emanate from the industrial period
during the 1930's. Through my history and profession of surfboard design/construction
I have amassed many ideas and stylised processes to help me better construct/express
my thoughts and deeper feelings.
I am at present enticed by organic texture and layering and what I term the
“L.A romantic shiny finishâ€, both styles being radically different with the subject
matter influencing my technical approach and finish. Many of my topics reflect our
political and cultural landscape; sometimes these being both painful and raw, some
works are immersed in history and our shared journey. For me I feel the need to an
adherence of honesty and the bulldozing of obfuscation. Many of the subjects I
project are almost journalistic in nature for, which I choose to tell in picture form.
Here are some of those stories...
